In addition to the complementary photo-documentary book, Resilience Media presents a documentary film showcasing the new blood of the Karen National Liberation Army and the sacrifices made by our rebel soldiers in the face of one of the most ruthless regimes in the world.

Saw Ba Oo Gyi, founder of the Karen Revolution, once said that the Karen Revolution was to be the first and the last. After sixty one years, the Karen people continue to struggle for freedom from oppression and peace in their homeland. It has been a rough and often painfully long march, and success is sometimes few and far between. Yet, the people carry on the revolution believing that change must come and our people must be free.

On January 6, 2010, 5th Brigade (KNLA) began the first major offensive since the fall of Marnerplaw in 1997. On that fateful day, KNLA attacked one of SPDC's most strategic communication command centers in Karen State. A sky-high microwave tower was built in the occupied Karen area in 2008 and the installation was completed in 2009. SPDC prepared its troops in a more sophisticated manner with sophisticated technologies made available to them by neighboring countries China and India. The microwave tower was a continued threat to the Karen people--Karen villagers were forcibly relocated to make room for its construction, and Karen people were forcibly employed to construct it. The KNLA victory at Der Kyu Kyo sent a message to SPDC that the Karen Revolution persists. The KNLA sent another message one week later on January 14, 2010 when it graduated twenty young officers from its military school. These and many others pictures reflecting the daily life in Karen Revolution are featured in this photo-documentary book. Our goal is twofold: we would like to inform the Karen people all over Burma and around the world that the Karen Revolution is alive and well; and we would like to reiterate our message to SPDC that the spirit of Karen Revolution thrives. There are generally three parts to this book. The first part is to illustrate the daily life of ordinary Karens living under SPDC occupation. As direct result of living in a war zone, these people's basic rights to education, public health services, and many others are severely compromised. The other two parts are of the Der Kyu Kyo Operation and the graduation ceremony of the KNLA Officer Training School.
Also, we commemorate the 61st anniversary of the Karen Revolution Day that falls on January 31, 2010. We are determined to strive for betterment through self-examination and self-correction. We honor those who have made various sacrifices for the cause of national liberation, freedom, and peace in Karen State and in Burma. We also call for all people - Karen and non-Karens alike - to conscientiously respond to injustices committed against the people of Burma, for "injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." We cannot claim to respect justice while turning a blind eye to injustices around us.
