An appeal to the entire Karen People

Beloved Karen people / Truth loving people

We, the Kawkasars had submitted an appeal at the last day of the Central Committee meeting of the Karen National Union ( KNU ) 2013, stating that the Karen quarters located at Ah Lone - San Chaung prefecture (Kayin Chan - Karen Quarters) in Rangoon (documented as the real owner of this land is the Karen people), should be reclaimed.

This appeal that had been submitted by the Kawkasars is truly an independent endeavor concerning the entire Karen people which is not based on Political, Military, Religious and Economic affairs.

The above submitted appeal was accepted at the Central Committee meeting for considerations as follows. “To get back the entire Karen quarters located at Ah Lone -San Chaung prefecture (Kayin Chan) in Rangoon is the interest of the Karen people ,which shall also benefit the aims of the peace process in Burma and therefore it is necessary to collect the experiences and opinions of previous individuals and organizations that had been doing this to reclaim the land”.

As mentioned above, the result so obtained from our initial endeavor, we re-submitted the matter to the emergency meeting of the Central Committee of the Karen National Union. The meeting earnestly discussed the matter and made some analysis on this issue and then gave suggestions to continue this movement. We, the Kawkasars continued our endeavor as suggested by meeting with not only the Karen elders but also with some sympathetic non-Karen elders and received their suggestions and supports.

Recently, there was a tenth Karen Unity Seminar held on May 28 – 31 at Lay Wah , attended by many Karen political organizations, Social organizations, various religious leaders, and respective representatives from armed organizations, altogether 247 representatives. In this meeting, a representative of Kawkasars presented the matter concerning the reclamation of the Karen quarters, as our ancestral heritage at Ah Lone-San Chaung prefecture (Kayin Chan) in Rangoon. The presentation was enthusiastically listened by all the representatives attended the meeting without raising any contradictory questions.

In continuing his presentation, he said that although many individuals and organizations might have been endeavored to reclaim the land, the combined effort is vital and necessary. In doing so, the fruitful result shall serve the interest of our national unity which is the aspiration of the entire people.
As our Karen people living in Myanmar scattering across the country is making the second largest population among ethnic groups, we have the most interconnected historical evidences in building Myanmar during the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries. At present every leader could understand that, the most concerned issue for our country is civil war and peace. As such, to consolidate the thought of our scattered people and to bring unity among them is extremely important.

In conclusion, the feeling of regaining the Karen quarters at Ah Lone-San Chaung prefecture (Kayin Chan) in Rangoon is the one that can unite the entire Karen people which could be the primary step to contribute to peace in Myanmar. That is, it shall be a prominent driving force for trust building, mainly in a cease fire process. To tell the truth, the unity of the Karen people is mutually interlinked with peace process in Myanmar which shall really contribute to final peace.

The unity of Karen people is therefore an integral part of peace in Myanmar. As such the entire Karen people, both living inside the country or abroad, expertise and honorable personnel are requested to give their advice.
