Karenni Activist Jumped from Plane for Burma
31 October 2011: Ms Moe Bu, Karenni activist based in the UK, last Saturday skydived over two miles from a plane to raise money for Burma Campaign UK, one of the leading campaigning organisations for Burma.
The 25-year-old Karenni, working as Campaigner at Burma Campaign UK, completed her parachute jump in Kent, raising over her target amount of 6,000 to stop killing and attacks by Burma Army soldiers.
Moe Bu said in her fundraising website: "I am jumping in memory of my mother, for my family and to raise awareness of attacks on civilians in Burma. I want to raise money for the Burma Campaign UK to stop the killing in Eastern Burma and free all political prisoners in the country."
Fleeing the attacks by Burma Army soldiers in her village in Karenni State, Moe Bu was in the relocation camp while she was 10 years old.
"In the relocation camp, we were not allowed to go out to find food or work. We lived in this camp for over a year before returning home," she added.
Burma's new government is still launching military attacks in ethnic areas including Kachin, Karen and Karenni states, killing civilians and pushing thousands of ethnic locals to be internally displaced.
Moe Bu is studying in the UK to become a nurse.
